"Therapy is a gift. It is a chance to finally be heard, understood, and supported." - Bessel Van Der Kolk
Do you feel exhausted from constantly pushing through chronic illness, pain, trauma, discrimination, bullying, medical stress, or feeling misunderstood by the people around you? Maybe you’ve spent years masking parts of yourself just to get through the day, struggling to feel truly seen, heard, or accepted. You don’t have to navigate that alone.
I’m Danielle, a pre-doctoral intern at River Wards Wellness Collective currently working toward my Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree in Clinical Psychology. I work with individuals navigating chronic illness, invisible disabilities, hearing loss/deafness, trauma, identity exploration, relational wounds, and the emotional impact of systemic oppression and marginalization. I also support clients coping with grief, medical trauma, abuse, and major life transitions.
As someone living with chronic illness and invisible disabilities myself, I understand how isolating, frustrating, and overwhelming these experiences can feel. I recognize the value of working with someone who can appreciate the realities of navigating these challenges, as well as the need for a space to process, decompress, grieve losses, explore your experiences, and make sense of what you've been through. You shouldn't have to spend your therapy sessions over-explaining your pain or proving your experiences to be supported.
My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and person-centered. I aim to create a space where clients can unmask, process difficult emotions, reconnect with themselves, and move toward healing at their own pace. Sessions with me are often conversational, reflective, and guided by your individual needs and goals. I prioritize meeting clients where they are while working together to develop coping strategies, deepen self-understanding, strengthen self-advocacy, and foster self-compassion.
I approach therapy through an eclectic, whole-person (biopsychosocial) lens and integrate relational-cultural theory and interpersonal perspectives throughout my work. Depending on your needs, I may also incorporate humanistic approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I believe in a collaborative approach when it comes to tailoring care to your unique needs and values.
Whether you're looking to explore your identity, reconnect with parts of yourself that have been lost, blurred, or overshadowed by difficult experiences, process grief and trauma, adjust to life with chronic illness, navigate complex medical systems, strengthen self-advocacy, or develop coping strategies that genuinely work for you, therapy can provide a supportive space to begin that process.
